It may not have caught the public’s imagination in the same way as the revered 205 GTi, but Peugeot’s 206 GTi seems to attract a loyal following, mainly because of their affordable pricing, availability and potential for modifications.
But with just 137 bhp on tap from its 1997cc EW10J4 engine, few would deny that the 1125 kilo 206 needs added urge to help it live up to the expectations of a GTi badge.
That said, the biggest problem with upgrading the 206 GTi at present is that there’s a huge gap in the engine tuning market between an affordable remap and an expensive, noisy and uneconomical independent throttle body conversion – something that Cat Cams is seeking to try and fill, with its ‘Sport’ fast road cam profiles for the EW10J4 motor.
Designed as a profile for everyday driving in all conditions, the Cat Cams ‘Sport’ cams – part number 4901613 - are produced with modest increases in valve lift and duration, in order to strike the right balance between driveability and performance. Cat Cams has also placed a great emphasis on ensuring that the standard road friendly idle characteristics are maintained.
Technical details on the Cat Cams Peugeot 206 GTi Sport profiles are as follows, shown in comparison to the original factory cams:-
Part no Duration Duration Max Valve Lift Description
@ 0.1 mm+cl @ 1.0 mm+cl
4901613 248 / 240 219 / 211 9.50 / 9.15 mm Sport – Fast Road
OEM 245 / 240 207 / 202 8.70 / 8.20 mm Standard 206 GTi
A straight swap for the original equipment 206 GTi camshafts, the Cat Cams 4901613 profiles are CNC ground from fresh castings and are directly compatible with the standard Peugeot hydraulic followers.
Dyno testing has proven that in conjunction with an ECU remap (or piggyback ECU) to optimise the air / fuel ratio, the Cat Cams 4901613 profiles deliver a peak power increase of up to 23 bhp at just 5500 rpm.
Combined with the retention of the 206 GTi’s much praised low speed torque, the Cat Cams profiles greatly extend the cars usable power band, making the Peugeot not only noticeably quicker, but considerably more user friendly as well. Peak torque increases by up to 24 lb.ft up to 165 lb.ft, with over 150lb. ft available from 3750 to 5500 rpm, making the cams ideal for relaxed, rapid, fast road use.
And this extra performance is designed to be accessible to all Peugeot 206 GTi fans, so the Cat Cams 4901613 profiles are priced at just £475.87 including VAT @ 17.5%. For further information and sales advice please contact Cat Cams UK or your nearest Cat Cams dealer.
NOTE: These profiles also suit the 2.0-litre EW10J4 powered Citroën Xsara and C4, plus the Peugeot 206 CC, 206 GT and the 307 Sport.
An alternative pair of ‘Sport’ profiles, designed for the track day market and carrying part number 4901614 is also under development. They will be launched into the UK market in the next 2-3 months, featuring extra lift and duration on the inlet cam for increased top end power.

Press Release:
Legendary Tuner BBR releases performance
conversion portfolio for Ford Focus RS Mk2
Brackley, Northants, 9th August 2010
BBR is proud to announce a new range of performance conversions for the mighty 300 bhp Ford Focus RS MK2. BBR’s upgrades reflect its 20 years experience with Ford tuning and are available in four very distinct power levels, with an accompanying suspension upgrade package to optimise the car’s dynamic abilities.
After 18 months of meticulous testing and development, BBR is confident no other Ford tuning company worldwide has a more complete track, road and dyno tested range of conversions for the Focus RS MK2.
Phase One BBR StarChip Software upgrade
The entry level upgrade transforms the performance and driveability of the Focus RS via an ECU remap. Use of BBR’s StarChip software affords an extremely linear throttle pedal / turbo boost map, resulting in a considerably smoother driving experience than offered by the factory ECU settings. With a huge improvement in throttle response, the mid range torque and peak horsepower are substantially enhanced, with no visibly obvious mechanical changes.
Phase One Conversion includes:
Custom Mapped BBR Star Chip - With careful calibration of the standard Focus RS MK2 ECU, fuel, ignition, torque, airflow and boost requirements are carefully re-mapped for all conditions, making this conversion a worthy level one addition to our range. BBR is confident that this ECU remap represents the finest blend of drivable performance for track and road.
Silicone induction hose - During testing under full load BBR has found the original air intake hose distorting, causing an airflow restriction. Replacement of this hose is essential to release the full performance of the Phase One conversion.
BBR Focus RS Phase One Power 342 bhp @ 6150RPM
BBR Focus RS Phase One Torque 369 ft/lbs @ 3350RPM
Priced at £595.00, customers should allow 2 hours for installation. A DIY kit is also available.
Phase Two BBR RS355
BBR’s Phase Two upgrade replaces the RS MK2's standard inefficient intercooler with BBR’s own high flow unit. All inlet air box hoses to and from the air-box and to the RS’s turbocharger unit are replaced with high flow, silicon versions, removing inlet air flow restrictions in the process.
In conjunction with the replacement inlet hose kit, BBR installs a custom mapped BBR Star Chip to extract the maximum safe power from the original RS MK2's fuel system, without any gains in inlet temperature, or the very important 'air fuel ratio' going weak. The stock paper element air filter is also replaced with a high flow performance unit.
In addition to the Phase One upgrade, the Phase Two Conversion includes:
BBR spec High flow intercooler - Finished in gloss black, the BBR intercooler sits discretely behind the Focus RS MK2's aggressive front grill, utilizing the full width of the aperture. This highly efficient inlet core allows BBR to manage inlet air temperatures easily, helping to optimise performance at higher boost levels.
High Flow inlet hose set – A complete set of high flow replacement hoses are included, removing manufacturer’s inherent flow restrictions and allowing greater flow from the turbocharger.
High flow filter – BBR specifies a drop in performance air filter which improves throttle response and comes with a million mile warranty.
BBR Focus RS Phase Two Power 355 bhp @ 6580RPM
BBR Focus RS Phase Two Torque 378 ft/lbs @ 3000-4600RPM
Priced at £1245.00, with a fitting charge of £195.00, customers should allow four to five hours for installation. A DIY kit is also available.
Phase Three BBR RS380
The BBR Phase Three conversion extracts the maximum safe power from the original Focus RS MK2's turbo unit. In addition to components used in the BBR phase two upgrade, the complete exhaust system is replaced with a BBR 3" stainless steel exhaust that includes a sports catalyst (retaining emissions legality.)
As part of the Phase Three conversion BBR also modifies the Focus RS MK2's fuel system to cope with the higher demands required at this boost/power level, using larger fuel injectors. BBR’s Star Chip ECU software is then carefully calibrated in parallel with the larger fuel injectors to ensure no loss in drivability or fuel consumption penalty.
In addition to the Phase Two upgrade, the Phase Three Conversion includes:
A BBR spec Turbo back high flow exhaust with sports cat – a complete system including sports catalyst, highest quality aircraft grade stainless steel finished with Twin 4" tail pipes that sit perfectly within the Focus RS MK2's original bumper aperture.
BBR spec high flow fuel injectors - Drop in replacement fuel injectors, with careful
BBR Star Chip software calibration, BBR injectors are optimised for this power level.
BBR Focus RS Phase Three Power 382 bhp @ 6080RPM

Notes to editors:-
A BBR Phase 3 upgraded Focus RS demonstrator, which also runs the BBR suspension package is available for press testing by appointment.
BBR has over 25 years experience tuning forced induction engines for road and track use. Early successes with Mitsubishi Colt turbo and the legendary Cosworth RS500 in the 1980’s saw BBR racing in the British touring car championship with numerous victories.
Arguably best known for its 500 bhp + RS Cosworth builds in the late 80's and 90's, BBR also developed and produced the world’s best selling MX5 turbo conversion developed for Mazda UK. In recent years BBR has concentrated on road based conversions, with a 365HP Lotus Elise, a 312 bhp BMW Cooper S and a 1000 bhp Aston Martin to mention just a few of our stunning upgrades. Since the release of the current Focus ST model in 2005, BBR has successively modified hundreds of Focus ST's for its clients, so BBR’s new upgrade portfolio the Focus RS model is a natural progression of this process.

Superchips launches performance ECU remaps for Mercedes 350 CDi BlueEFFICIENCY models
Superchips launches performance ECU remaps for Mercedes 350 CDi BlueEFFICIENCY models
* ECU remap boosts performance by up to 34 bhp / 80Nm
* Over 250 bhp available from 2200-4400 rpm
* Suits C / E / M / R and S Class 350 CDi BlueEFFICIENCY variants
* On sale now through Superchips UK dealer network
Buckingham, United Kingdom, 2nd August 2010
Mercedes’ turbo diesel powerplants have always garnered high praise for their refinement and economy, if not for their outright pace. But now Buckingham-based performance automotive electronics expert Superchips Ltd can rectify this relative lack of urge with the launch of an ECU remap for a range of Mercedes models using the 231 bhp 350 CDi BlueEFFICIENCY engine.
Covering 350 CDi BlueEFFICIENCY variants across C / E / M / R and S-Class models, Superchips technicians have created a new ECU map for the Mercedes’ Bosch EDC17 ECU, safely removing some of the inherent performance constraints and fine tuning fuelling and turbo boost parameters. These changes have then been rigorously validated through a combination of road and chassis dyno testing.
The result of the Superchips ECU remap is a healthy increase of 34 bhp at 3008 rpm, resulting in a maximum peak power figure of up to 284 bhp (up from a measured standard power output of 250 bhp.) Importantly, there is a decent spread of driveable power, with over 250 bhp available from 2700-4400 rpm.
Impressively, given the refined nature of the Mercedes 350 CDi BlueEFFICIENCY models, the Superchips ECU remap delivers a significant boost in torque, which jumps from 587 Nm to 642 Nm at just 2469 rpm, realising a maximum gain of 80Nm at 3008 rpm.
The end result is a sharper, more exciting, more responsive driving experience, with additional reserves of urge on tap for overtaking or towing. And thanks to the extra efficiencies delivered by the Superchips ECU remap, the 350 CDi powerplant feels smoother and is just as frugal. Indeed, if the Superchips remapped version is driven in a ‘like for like’ manner against the standard 350 CDi BlueEFFICIENCY car, owners will experience noticeable fuel economy improvements due to the additional low rev torque delivered by the Superchips upgrade.
Installation of the Superchips Mercedes 350 CDi BlueEFFICIENCY ECU remap entails customers visiting one of approximately 80 Superchips performance centres whose trained technicians can undertake the remapping procedure.
Customers can be assured that the Superchips conversion is covered by a full Customer Service Guarantee and an industry-leading 12 month / 30,000 mile supplementary vehicle warranty.
Covering 350 CDi BlueEFFICIENCY variants across C / E / M / R and S-Class models produced from June 2009 onwards, the Superchips ECU remap is available now both directly from Superchips and its UK dealer network, priced at £445.00 including installation and VAT.
Superchips – don’t compromise, optimise.

Hence why leading Japanese tuning house TODA Racing is pleased to announce the launch of a pair of new stroker kits for the 3S-GTE motor, designed to enlarge its standard 1998cc capacity to either 2161cc or 2211cc, greatly increasing the engine’s torque and brake horsepower. With this in mind the TODA Racing 3S-GTE stroker kits incorporate high strength internals, purpose designed to withstand significant increases in power output. In addition, both TODA Racing kits use specially designed low compression pistons, allowing the use of high turbo boost levels and reduced detonation risk.
Key features of the TODA Racing 3S-GTE stroker kits include:-
* A 93 mm, long stroke, dynamically balanced forged steel crankshaft (standard stroke is 86 mm)
* Forged steel I-section connecting rods with fully floating small end bushes and central oil feeds to the gudgeon pins
* High strength gudgeon pins and ARP connecting rod bolts
* Forged alloy pistons balanced to within +/- 0.25 grams and with improved oil return system to provide superior lubrication at high outputs
* Low compression piston design – an 8.2:1 ratio can be achieved with a 1.5mm thick head gasket
* ‘Defric’ coating on piston skirts to reduce friction and aid running in
* A choice of capacities – 2161cc (using 86mm TODA pistons) and 2211cc (using 87mm TODA pistons)
Proven during extensive dyno testing and track evaluation, the TODA Racing 3S-GTE stroker kits are available now, exclusively from TODA Europe, a division of Torque Developments Plc.
